Connect a data source

Carson reads your customer conversations from the tools you already use. Most connect when you sign in to the tool from Carson. A few ask you to create a key in the tool and paste it into Carson instead, and these guides walk you through that.

What an API key is

An API key (Intercom calls it an access token) is a long password that lets Carson read your data in that tool without signing in as you. You create it in the tool's admin settings and paste it into Carson once.

Treat it like a password. Paste it only into Carson's connect form, never into email or chat. If one leaks, delete it in the tool and create a new one.
